Virat Kohli: Family’s Role in Foreign Tours

BCCI’s New Directive on Family Visits

Indian cricket star Virat Kohli has highlighted the significance of family during foreign tours. His comments follow the BCCI’s recent directive, issued after India’s 3-1 loss in Australia, limiting the time players can spend with their families.

  • On tours over 45 days, immediate family members can join for only two weeks.
  • For shorter tours, family accompaniment is restricted to one week.

Kohli on Family Importance

Speaking at the RCB Innovational Lab Indian Sports Summit, Kohli emphasized the grounding effect of family during intense situations.

  • “It’s very difficult to explain to people how grounding it is to just come back to your family every time you have something which is intense.”
  • “I don’t want to go to my room and just sit alone and sulk…I want to be able to be normal.”

Penalties for Non-Compliance

BCCI introduced a 10-point policy to promote discipline and unity in the Indian cricket team after their loss against Australia.

  • Non-compliance may result in sanctions, including cuts in retainer fees from central contracts.
  • Players may also be barred from participating in the Indian Premier League.

Anushka Sharma’s Influence on Kohli

Kohli attributed his success in the 20-over World Cup last year to his wife, Anushka Sharma.

  • “None of this would remotely be possible without you my love. You keep me humble, grounded and you always say it how it is with absolute honesty.”
